Mr Brian Hendry buys the Tivoli in 2009. He immediately announces plans to spend about £5m over the following three years to restore the Tivoli as a mid-size theatre.
The announcement of the sale is welcomed by the Aberdeen Tivoli Theatre Trust. Trust chairman Celia Walker says: “I think it's great news for the Tivoli because it means work will be able to start much earlier than we would have been able to start”.
July 2009 sees the launch of The Green Townscape Heritage Initiative (a partnership to regenerate The Green area of Aberdeen, involving Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen City Heritage Trust, The Heritage Lottery Fund, Historic Scotland, and Scottish Enterprise). The Tivoli is identified as one of four priority projects within The Green THI.
August 2010 sees the submission to Aberdeen City Council of detailed plans for the restoration of the Tivoli.
November 2010 sees the Tivoli Theatre Management Company awarded more than £500,000 of grant funding from The Green THI. This funding is designed to allow repairs to the external fabric of the Grade A listed Tivoli building. More detail on the project can be found here.
