Heritage Lottery Fund kick starts a new life
The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded a grant of £49,500 to the Aberdeen Tivoli Theatre Trust to carry out project planning surveys for the restoration of Aberdeen’s Tivoli Theatre, the oldest theatre in the city and the second oldest theatre in Scotland.
The award will largely finance the preparation of a Conservation Management Plan, Audience Development Plan and Building Survey. The completed reports will be included in a further application to The Heritage Lottery Fund for the restoration of this Grade A historic building.
Commenting on the Award, Edi Swan of the Aberdeen Tivoli Theatre Trust, said “We are delighted at this opportunity to kick start the restoration of the Tivoli with these important planning stages. The Tivoli Steering Group is working to open this beautiful and important building once again as a theatrical venue to complement the existing theatre provision in the city. It aims to attract smaller scale touring theatre, which currently cannot find suitable professional facilities in Aberdeen, and provide a home in the city for many groups seeking a mid-scale capacity theatre of around 650 seats.”
Explaining the importance of the award, Colin McLean, Heritage Lottery Fund Manager for Scotland, said: "We're passionate about giving new life to historic landmarks and ensuring they can play a role in society once again. Our grant will help the Trust to do just that, by enabling them to lay firm foundations for their long term plans for the Theatre."
